THE HISTORY OF CLC Christian Life Center was chartered in 1936 in Houston, Texas under the name of “Norhill Assembly of God Church”. The church grew and in the mid 1960’s .The church then moved to 12330 Vickery Street in the Freeway Forest Subdivision of Harris County. They changed the name of the church to “Freeway Forest Assembly of God Church”. The church grew in the 1970’s to become one of the largest Assembly of God churches in the city of Houston. In the 1980’s the church began to loose membership due to internal problems. Other members began to leave as the neighborhood began to change from what was once suburban Houston to the inner city. In the late 1980’s the name was once again changed to its current name “Christian Life Center”. Between the years of 1987 and 1989 the church went through difficult financial struggles. They had closed their school and day care center and they went through three pastors in a period of two years.
In June of 1989 Pastor Richard and Lisa Rodriguez became the pastors of Christian Life Center. The church has grown since June of 1989 from approximately 30 in an average Sunday morning attendance to over 2,000 in an average weekly attendance. In 2001 The church moved to its current location on Hwy. 59 and Rankin Rd. in Houston, Texas. Hwy 59 is the (NAFTA) highway or the North American Free Trade Agreement highway with Mexico and Canada. It is a highly visible location with 1,000,000 vehicles passing the location every week. The church is located within five miles of the George Bush Intercontinental Airport, which is Houston’s largest airport and the hub of Continental Airlines. With its highly visible location and the many hotels that surround the church, it has quickly become a center for conventions, concerts and other religious events.
Christian Life Center has recently become Non Denominational and is steadily growing. The Christian School and Daycare is now reopened and is a premier facility located 5 minutes from the church in downtown Humble, TX and is now a fully accredited, state recognized learning institution with over 300 students currently enrolled. The church has grown every year for the past 20 years under the leadership of pastors Richard and Lisa Rodriguez; and is continuing to spread the gospel and venture into bigger and better things.
